Credit/Clock Hour Conversion Programs
HCCC offers programs that are considered credit/clock hour conversion programs based on federal regulations set by the US Department of Education. The program listed below falls under this regulation because the program includes one or more courses that cannot be counted towards the completion of a two-year Associate degree program.
Personal Fitness Training Certificate Program
For these programs, institutions must determine the actual number of “payable financial aid credit hours”. This determination is made by dividing the total number of clock hours in a course by 37.5. The result is the new total credit hours for the course in which financial aid will be paid. We must use this total when calculating the financial aid awards.
Based on the reported clock hours of instruction and applying the formula as described at 34 CFR 668.8(l), the total number of hours for Personal Fitness Training Certificate Program that will be eligible for the federal Pell grant is 22 credit hours.
The reduced federal Pell grant may have an impact on the student financial aid award starting in the second semester. Please visit the office of Student Financial Assistance to determine the financial aid award.
The Federal Pell Grant reflected on the award letter is based on full-time enrollment in an eligible program. The actual award amount will be based on the financial aid converted hours, not the actual credit hours. For additional questions, please contact the office of Student Financial Assistance.
