  • Welcome to the HCCC Center for Academic & Student Success Educational Opportunity Fund

For more than 40 years, students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds have been provided with opportunities to pursue their college degrees thanks to the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF). While the EOF was created by statute in 1968, it has been an integral part of Hudson County Community College since the late 1970s.

Since its founding, EOF has provided academic, financial and social support to thousands of students. The program focuses on students who are highly motivated and have the potential to do college work, but were academically under-prepared in high school, and/or have a history of financial disadvantage.

The College’s EOF program has a dedicated team of counselors, instructors and tutors who work closely with EOF students. EOF support services include:

    • Our five-week, pre-college summer program to provide students with a head start on their college education
    • Academic advisement, counseling and tutoring
    • Workshops and cultural activities and trips
    • Mentoring from experienced EOF students
    • Class registration with a personal EOF counselor
    • Career advisement and guidance on transferring to four-year colleges and universities
    • Financial assistance ranging from $263 to $1,050 each year
    • The opportunity to transfer to an EOF program at a four-year college or university

You may qualify to be a part of the EOF program at HCCC!

To be considered for the program you must:

    • Have been a resident of New Jersey for at least one year
    • Be a full-time student (12 credit hours) from an educationally and/or economically disadvantaged background
    • Meet the financial eligibility requirements as defined by the State of New Jersey
    • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and provide income documentation as needed to verify income eligibility
    • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 (if you are a current HCCC student)
    • If you are an ESL student, you must be at Level IV or higher in all ESL classes
    • Complete the EOF Application form and arrange to interview with an EOF counselor
