Known on campus as “Dr. K,” Ara Karakashian has been teaching full time at HCCC since 2008, and has played a significant role in developing Hospitality Management curriculum at the college. Dr. K came to HCCC with management experience at hospitality properties in Rhode Island and New Jersey. Having owned and managed a 50-seat luncheonette, he also brings entrepreneurial experience to the classroom. A servant leader who speaks English, Spanish, Armenian, and Arabic, Dr. K guides and assists students, faculty, and staff in achieving their goals.

Dr. K has served on numerous committees at HCCC, namely as elected Chair of the Steering Committee of the All College Council, Mission Review Committee, Middle States Re-accreditation, and American Culinary Federation Re-accreditation. He is actively involved in secondary and higher education advisory boards within Hudson, Passaic, Middlesex, and Monmouth Counties.

Dr. K coached HCCC students participating in the San Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition in New York City. All HCCC participants became employed by Restaurant Daniel as a result of their success in that competition.
