Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Secaucus Center and Early College Programs, the Assistant Director is responsible for the development/expansion of high school (public/private/parochial/charter) partnerships and college preparatory programs that permit students to earn degree credits and facilitate successful transfer to college (preferably HCCC) upon graduation. Duties include, but are not limited to, collaboration with high schools throughout Hudson County and vocational technical schools in other counties (for specified courses offered only by HCCC) to encourage course alignment for dual credit and tech-prep/school-to- college/careers programming; development of articulation agreements, alternate schedules and reports; tracking of enrollments and student progress; budget management and overall program planning and assessment. This is a 12-month administrative position.

 

Major Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as the College’s day-to-day liaison for K-12 partnerships and facilitate advanced placement and other initiatives to promote and support the Early College Program, effectively market the program to parents and school administrators, attract and ease students’ transition from high school to the college environment, and increase the College’s enrollment. Work in close collaboration with Executive Director and provide support with related initiatives.
  • Work with HCCC and high school academic administrators and faculty to identify and align courses, staff classes; make arrangements for class observations and administration of student evaluation questionnaires; ensure test scores and grades are submitted and posted within required timelines. Monitor student progress, and arrange for academic and student support, as appropriate.
  • Work with the HCCC Testing Office and high schools for administration of the College Placement Test (CPT). Ensure students selected by the high schools for participation in college-level courses meet course pre/co-requisites based on SAT or CPT scores.
  • Where possible, and in conjunction with the HCCC Testing Center, implement basic skills (no-penalty advisory) testing, to help high school students prepare for successful college entry.
  • Visit high schools, create and conduct presentations to students, faculty, and school administrators to provide information about dual-credit and Tech-Prep/School to College/Careers opportunities available to give students a jump-start to earning degree credits. Arrange for on-site tours of the College campuses in conjunction with Enrollment Management; plan and coordinate student/parent orientation events.
  • Track Early College enrollments, retention, assessment, and achievements. Ensure the Early College Program meets the annual enrollment and achievement goals. Prepare annual reports at the completion of the academic year and projections for the subsequent academic year.
  • Represent the Executive Director in meetings or committees in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Supervise the Early College Student Success Coach and share in the supervision of the Early College Administrative Assistant.
  • Complete other program-related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in education, administration, counseling or closely-related area.
  • A minimum of three years of full-time administrative experience in Higher Education, Previous experience at a community college and working with external partners and/or K-12 school districts preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, and to work cooperatively with peers in mutually defining and accomplishing the program goals.
  • Ability to interact and build effective working relationships with HCCC and high school administrators and faculty; also, high school students and parents to present a positive image of the College, its programs, and its services offered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and carry out instructions with minimal supervision. Position requires creativity, resourcefulness, initiative and a high degree of motivation.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills required; also, basic computer and information literacy and familiarity with accessing and using data information systems. Must understand the role of technology, distance learning and alternative instructional delivery modes in education
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to the role of a comprehensive community college in an urban, multicultural setting.
