Department / Division Introduction

The Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development is an exciting and entrepreneurial office within the College, which offers a wide variety of non-credit classes, courses, seminars, and training sessions for the community. These offerings are focused on revitalizing careers, upgrading skills and credentials, growing businesses, and pursuing pastimes and passions. Additionally, the HCCC Center for Business & Industry (CBI) is the area leader in developing and delivering educational classes and programs for Hudson County’s businesses, organizations and individuals. Position Summary / Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Healthcare Programs, Continuing Education and Workforce Development, the Part-Time Certified Nurse Aide Instructor will instruct and assist CNA students preparing for the certification exam.

 

Required / Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must be currently licensed in New Jersey as a Registered Professional Nurse for at least three years and be an approved instructor by the NJ State Department of Health and Senior Services, possess at least one (1) year of full-time experience or equivalent as a registered professional nurse in a licensed long-term care facility.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours:
    • Day Program (as early as 7:30 am to 2:30 pm)
    • Evening Program (from 5 pm to 10:15 pm)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications
  • Instruct CNA students preparing for the certification exam.
  • Maintain accurate individual student records as mandated by NJ Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS), including students’ physicals, attendance, skills and written test results.
  • Submit applications, schedules and signature forms to NJDHSS in a timely manner.
  • Observe and instruct students in the classroom and clinical setting.
  • Register and schedule students for skills and written competency examinations.
  • Communicate effectively with students, and all those affiliated with the course, including staff at clinical sites, staff, skills evaluator and prospective employers.
  • Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of resident care.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to work with a diverse student population.
  • Must have the ability to provide consistent hours on a weekly basis and the flexibility to adjust schedules as needed, including weekends.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) ability is helpful but not required.
