College Overview

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is an award-winning, comprehensive urban college serving one of the most historic and ethnically diverse areas of the United States. HCCC students were born in 119 countries and speak 29 different languages. The diversity and the multitude of our community’s cultures, life experiences, skills and aspirations, are the very values and traits that empower us to be productive and caring members of our society.

HCCC embodies an unwavering commitment to student success and an intentional focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. In 2019, the President’s Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (PACDEI) was instituted to develop new levels of understanding and access and advance the College’s commitment to transparency and inclusion. We are proud of the differences we share, which are the foundation for the life changing and transformational education we offer and the social mobility we provide to the communities we serve.

HCCC has three campuses located just minutes from Manhattan: The Journal Square campus in Jersey City and North Hudson Campus in Union City are adjacent to vital transportation hubs; the Secaucus Center has abundant parking. Fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the College offers courses and classes in a wide variety of disciplines to the people and businesses of Hudson County, one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the United States. The College was recently recognized with the 2021 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Northeast Regional Equity Award, and the 2021 INSIGHT into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. In 2016 the Gabert Library was one of three academic libraries in the United States to receive the Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), and in 2019 the HCCC Tutoring Center received the Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award for Two-Year Institutions. In 2019, the College joined Achieving the Dream, a network of high achieving community colleges, part of its expanding effort toward continuous improvement in student success.

Hudson County Community College is proud of its culture of care and invites applications from those wishing to join a community dedicated to promoting student success in all forms.

The STEM Division is housed in a new state-of-the-art 70,000 square-foot building, with teaching and learning space. Students conduct research with faculty, presenting their results at regional and national conferences. Additionally, students have the opportunity to be a part of the Northern New Jersey Bridges to Baccalaureate (NNJ-B2B) Alliance of five, public, associate-degree granting, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). HCCC STEM students have participated in summer research internship projects at institutions including Princeton University, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Rutgers University, and The City University of New York (CUNY). In the last two years, the STEM Division has created programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Cybersecurity and Construction Management. In 2021 the Division received a $298,806 National Science Foundation Advanced Technical grant. The overall objective of the grant is to develop and improve structured partnerships with local employers to increase internship opportunities and employment for Construction Management students and graduates.

More than 90% of HCCC’s students receive scholarships, grants, and loans to finance their education, and the College’s extensive financial aid program helps connect students with the resources they need. To date, the College’s Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City’s Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.

HCCC offers 10 fully online degree programs and expects this number to grow in the coming year. In addition to its degree programs and courses, HCCC offers a wide array of non-credit classes and programs designed to develop professional skills, provide occupational training, teach languages and culinary skills, and enrich personal and cultural knowledge.

Hudson County Community College is committed to delivering high-quality educational experiences. HCCC is a member of the Achieving the Dream network of community colleges.
