The College was recently recognized with the 2021 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Northeast Regional Equity Award, and the 2021 INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. In 2016 the Gabert Library was one of three academic libraries in the United States to receive the Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), and in 2019 the HCCC Tutoring Center received the Frank L. Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award for Two-Year Institutions. In 2019, the College joined Achieving the Dream, a network of high achieving community colleges, part of its expanding effort toward continuous improvement in student success.

Position Summary / Job Description

Provide professional educational support services and assistance to all students and prospective students at the Secaucus Center as well as Early College students attending schools administered by the Hudson County Schools of Technology. 

 

Salary

$46,096.61 

 

Required / Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum of one year of related work experience. Effective organizational, process-management, and oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution ability. Knowledge of various computer software programs and the use of Ellucian-Colleague or similar higher education platform and experience with on-line programs preferred. Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding student records. An understanding of a commitment to the role of a comprehensive community college in an urban multi-cultural setting also required; demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

This position will be located at the Frank J. Gargiulo Campus of the Hudson County Schools of Technology and the individual in this position will be required to comply with school district policies as well including, but not limited to, and additional background check.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Student Development, counseling or a related field.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Interface with students, parents, school counselors and other school personnel to ensure an exceptional level of educational support services. Provide accurate information to prospective students and the general public on courses and programs offered by HCCC.
  • Provide admission and registration support to students in the Early College Program, assisting students in completing and processing forms and records required by the College. Including, but not limited to: the application process, course selection, registration, and answering inquiries. Ensures enrollment deadlines are met. Troubleshoots and follows-up on pending registrations to ensure timely registration of students.
  • Assist students in planning, creating and implementing a course schedule that is compatible with their goals and with the requirements of the intended academic program.
  • Proctor tests as needed, maintain integrity of test site and assure confidentiality of test results.
  • Support special College events, recruiting outings, workshops and fairs as needed.
  • Safeguard student information and documents consistent with College policies and FERPA guidelines.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by the College and departmental needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and representatives of the Hudson County Schools of Technology while projecting a positive self-image of professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, honesty and personal integrity at all times.
  • Spend considerable time on-site at partner high schools to provide in person support to current and potential Secaucus Center and Early College Students.
  • Complete daily tasks consistent with the policies and processes of Enrollment Services, Student Services and Academic.
