Resources and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

For Spring 2021, HCCC is offering courses in three modes: Online, On Ground, or Remote.

Some classes will be offered in-person On Ground and may be combined with Online or Remote instruction.

Hear from Peer Leader Tyler on the differences and benefits of each class mode:

To understand what type of courses you are registered for, view your schedule via Student Planning at https://erp-slfsrv-prod.hccc.edu/Student/Planning/DegreePlans.

ONLINE = CAMPUS LOCATION ON SCHEDULE SAYS ON-LINE
Fully online teaching and learning. This means most work is completed on students’ own time schedule as long as the work is submitted on time.

ON GROUND = CAMPUS LOCATION ON SCHEDULE SAYS BUILDING AND CLASSROOM LISTED
This course will be held on-campus at the campus and room displayed. These courses could be combined with remote or online instruction, creating a hybrid experience.

REMOTE = CAMPUS LOCATION SAYS REMOTE AND THERE IS A DAY AND TIME LISTED, BUT NO CLASSROOM LOCATION
Remote courses are similar to the experience of being in a face-to-face on-ground class. This means students will be attending class remotely, or virtually, at the time the class is scheduled.

Resources
Online and Remote classes will be supported on Canvas, HCCC’s Learning Management System. Hudson Online classes and Canvas are managed by the Center for Online Learning.

All students taking an online class are automatically enrolled in the “Classroom Students Guide to Canvas: An Orientation"

Additional information, resources, and training can be found by visiting the Center for Online Learning or my.hccc.edu/col.

For instructional best practices please email COLFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE. For WebEx technical support please email ITShelpFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE.

Free tutoring services are still available through www.hccc.mywconline.com.

Tutors that you have been working with all semester will be working with you remotely. Simply log into WCOnline and schedule an appointment with your regular tutor.

Click here for a video on how to make an online tutoring appointment.

During your online tutoring session, you can use audio/video with your computer/laptop, type questions the Chat, draw on the whiteboard using your cursor, and use the toolbar to import and export documents.

For questions or concerns, please contact Kyle Woolley, Head Tutor for Math, Science, and Business at kwoolleyFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE.

While the structure of an online course may eliminate the need for many typical classroom accommodations, the environment may also create a unique set of needed accommodations. Communicate with your faculty member as soon as possible to understand how the change of instruction may affect your accommodations.

The HCCC Bookstore is committed to providing great service to the college community in a safe and healthy environment. With the current state of the pandemic, it is necessary for us to adjust operations which will impact both our staff and our customers.

Here is some important information that will help the Bookstore serve you better:

For the Bookstore’s Hours of Operation, click here.

Safety Precautions:

  • All staff and customers will be required to wear a mask.
  • There is a hand sanitizer station available at the front of the store.
  • The store will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.
  • Social distancing will be enforced, requiring everyone to maintain 6 feet of space between themselves and others.
  • There will be an occupancy of a maximum of 10 customers in the store at a time.
  • We will be providing clerk service for textbooks where Bookstore Associates will get your books for you when you come in. All you need is your student ID number.

How We Can Serve You Best:
Given the occupancy limit in the physical store space, the Bookstore strongly recommend that you order your books via their website, hcccshop.com and have your materials shipped to your home whenever possible.

If you are comfortable using e-books, the Bookstore also recommends you order those, as you will receive them by e-mail within minutes of placing your order as opposed to waiting on a package. If an e-book is available, it will be listed as an option on the site.

You can use your book vouchers on the site, and it provides access to many items that are not stocked in the store. If shipping is not an option for you, the Bookstore will be arranging a pickup location that is yet to be determined. More information to follow on that option.

HCCC’s Chromebook loan program offers students who are in need to technology for their online or remote classes the opportunity to borrow a Chromebook for the semester. To put in a request, visit https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?HudsonCountyCC&layout_id=5.

Chromebooks must be returned at the end of each semester. For questions, email deanofstudentsFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE.
