Hudson County Community College Virtual Experiences Classes in October Offer Opportunities to Explore Creativity and Improve Life Skills

New classes and opportunities to host continue to be offered.

 

September 18, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development is offering “LIVE Virtual Experiences” classes in October for anyone who wants to develop new talents, grow personally and professionally, and enjoy evenings of fun!

 

Virtual Experiences

 

Kick’in it with Comics is a fun, interactive workshop for learning the basics of stand-up! Comedians Eugene T. Barnes and Paul Bennett will screen clips of the hottest, past and present comedians as examples, and show how to break down jokes and determine what makes them funny. Mondays or Fridays, September 28 through October 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. $20 per class.

Adulting for Beginners: How to Not Go Broke and the Fundamentals of Financial Literacy is ideal for those who struggle to manage their money and spending habits. The workshop topics include financial psychology, budgeting, account management, understanding credit scores, and common-sense tips. Thursday or Wednesday, October 1 and 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.; Saturday, October 3, 10, or 24, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; $15 per class.

Looking at Mental Disorders from TV explores characters such as “Sheldon” from Big Bang Theory, “Abed” from Community, “Rebecca” from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Jessica Jones. Friday, October 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. $15

Be Here Now: Create Your Own Wellness and Joy highlights wellness practices that fuel happiness, including present-moment awareness, powerful affirmations, mindfulness, sound and music, and movements from Laughter Yoga and IntenSati. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, October 5 through October 9, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. $19 per class.

Self-Care is Soul Care…4 A’s of the Heart teaches how to maintain a healthy inner relationship and transmit positivity to others. Tuesday, October 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Tuesday, October 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 16, from 12 to 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, October 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.; or Tuesday, October 27, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. $25 per class.

Classical Musical Periods details how classical music influences modern music. The class will include a focus on music from the baroque, classical, romantic, and 20th century periods. Before class, students should email their favorite piece of classical music. Thursday, October 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. $15.

Corporate Event Planning 101 (1.5 hours) provides the fundamentals for this non-traditional career choice by exploring types of corporate events, education and training, revenue versus non-revenue events, and planners’ checklists. Thursdays, October 8 through December 10 (NOTE: the October 30 class will be held on October 29, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. $25 per class.

Fundamentals of Cross-Stitching teaches the basics of cross-stitching and creating cross-stitch plastic coasters that are a practical use of the art form. Saturdays or Sundays, October 9 through October 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. $17 per class.

The Myers-Briggs Personality Test reveals how personality type affects daily living, relationships, and job performance. Participants will learn about personality theory and more about themselves by discussing the test. Friday or Saturday, October 16 and 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. $15 per class.

Get Ready, Get Set, Grab Your Pen & Paper! Let’s Journal! Takes participants on a journey of self-discovery and activating inner creativity, establishing goals, solving problems, sharpening focus, gauging emotions, and improving communications. Mondays, October 19 through November 9, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. $10 per class.

Beauty Made Simple features a professional makeup artist who will show how to put one’s best face forward for daily living or special occasions. Includes an overview of skincare as well as a live demonstration. Thursdays, October 22 through November 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. $15 per class.
