Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) Program

 

About This Class

This course prepares participants for an entry-level position as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) with the skills and knowledge to function as a valuable member of the clinical care team in both chronic (outpatient) and acute (hospital) hemodialysis settings under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Content includes, but is not limited to, interpersonal skills, documentation, legal and ethical considerations, and renal-health illness concepts. Basic Life Support, First Aid, infection control, and CHT skills development are taught. The course will consist of lectures as well as hands-on clinical experience. Students will be prepared to take the CHT national exam through Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing Technology (BONENT). Students will participate in clinicals at dialysis centers in the area.

Preparation 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Possess High School Diploma or the Equivalent GED 
  • Apply for and pass a criminal background check   
  • Pass Assessment Test (TABE) 9th grade level (student with college degrees from U.S. may be exempt from the placement test) 
  • Commit to take the appropriate immunizations when required by the clinical site (some clinic sites may require additional information) 
  • Commit to drug screening test when required by the clinical site 
  • Committed to start working upon program completion.
