For Employers

Employers

Career Services is keen to support employers in our local New Jersey and New York City markets to enhance the social equity, environmental protection, and economic success of our community. HCCC serves a varied group of students and would enrich employers’ diversity, equity and inclusion objectives. We are considerate of industry trends and employer needs. We rely on your collaboration and guidance on the competencies and skills students need to be successful in the workforce. Please review the list below of different ways we can support your recruitment and talent management strategy.

You are invited to be a part of HCCC’s student and alumni professional networks to promote opportunities:

  • Create a profile on CareerSpark to post jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities for current students. The platform is Career Services’ primary tool to connect HCCC students with employers for opportunities that require an associate degree or less, scheduling information sessions and recruitment events.

The college offers a few internships, externships, and service learning courses for academic credit; refer to list below. If you are interested in partnering with the college, please contact the Director of Career Services to put you in touch with the appropriate department.

Faculty are eager and excited to have representatives from employers visit and share information about business, industry, and career paths for our students. Students gain real-world insights and understand the skills and education needed as they make career decisions.

Career Services can be a helpful part of your Employee Engagement strategy. As businesses are trying to create a triple bottom line approach to business models – attending to profit, people and planet – our department can assist with the people part. According to Gallup’s State of the American Workplace Report, only 33% of employees are engaged at work. We believe that you can improve employee engagement by giving them the opportunity to work with our students in the following ways:

  • Informational Interviews – conversations about one’s professional journey
  • Volunteering – helping students with resumes, cover letters, and interview skills
  • Mentorship – a more formal ongoing relationship that supports the student on their career path
  • Job Shadowing – allow students to follow an employee for the day to observe and learn about the business, role, and industry

Invite HCCC students to visit your workplace and receive a tour of the grounds and an overview of the business. This enhances your company brand and attracts potential future recruits while giving students the chance to see if they fit into your culture. Seeing the workplace and getting a firsthand feel of what it’s like to work at your office is a powerful influencer in making career decisions.

Donations are always a welcome way to contribute to the college and support the students’ academic and career journey. Please join HCCC in reducing barriers and empowering students by giving to the Hudson County Community College Foundation and the Hudson Helps Resource Center.
