August 23, 2018, Jersey City, NJ – Digging into one’s past and tracing the family history is a journey of discovery, but DNA tests like 23andMe and Ancestry can cost hundreds of dollars.

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will hold a two-hour workshop on Genealogy research basics for those interested in learning more about their ancestry. The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the HCCC Culinary Conference Center, located at 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City. Tuition is $30.

During the workshop, participants will learn the basics of genealogical search including how to create a family tree, compare various DNA testing options, trace ancestors and track long-lost relatives, and review different resources, documents, and public records. Participants will also become acquainted with searchable items to help learn more about one’s heritage including birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, military records, obituaries, and other sources to assist in verifying family history.
