This course provides an exploration of dance history from a global perspective, emphasizing the relationship between dance and the customs, beliefs, and values of diverse cultural groups. Students will examine how dance serves as an expression of religious worship, ritual, power dynamics, gender roles, social structures, theatrical artistry, and cultural identity. Through observation, critical reading and writing, discussions, and analysis, students will explore dance as both an art form and a cultural phenomenon, gaining a deeper appreciation for its significance in human experience across time and place.
