Basic Japanese I

Basic Japanese I provides students with an introduction to the Japanese language and culture through a competency-based approach. Emphasis is on fundamentals of conversation, reading, and writing. The Kana writing system and some Kanji writing characters are also introduced. Cultural awareness and grammar are integrated as students progress through the course. *This course is not open to students with two or more years of high school Japanese or to Heritage Japanese speakers.
