Diana Carrera Cifuentes is a dedicated education leader passionate about serving children and families through inclusive and effective school communities. Originally from Ecuador, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Science and an MBA with a concentration in Business Management from New Jersey City University (NJCU). With extensive experience in school administration and operations, she has served in leadership roles as a preschool director, director of operations, and supervisor in both public and private school settings. Currently, Ms. Carrera serves as the Senior Director of Operations at Hoboken Dual Language Charter School, where she supports the Hoboken community by advancing the school’s bilingualism mission and strengthening operational systems that promote student success. She is committed to staff development, collaborative leadership, and building strong partnerships with families to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Ms. Carrera believes that safe, joyful, and well-structured schools create the foundation for academic achievement and a lifelong love of learning. Her work focuses on ensuring that schools operate efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on equity, culture, and community engagement. Outside of work, she enjoys walking her dog, exploring new places, and discovering diverse cultures and cuisines.

What resources or support services (e.g., tutoring, counseling, career services) did you find most helpful?
One of the most impactful supports during my time at community college was the guidance of my teacher, Professor Laurie Riccadona. She was an amazing mentor who inspired me to continue my career and believe in my potential. Her encouragement made a lasting impact on my educational journey and motivated me to persevere and succeed.
Were you involved in any student organizations, clubs, or leadership roles?
No, I was not involved in student organizations or clubs, as I was balancing work and school responsibilities.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during your time at community college?
As an immigrant, balancing a full-time job while attending school full-time was very challenging. In addition, mastering English courses while continuing my education required extra effort and determination. Hudson County Community College (HCCC) supported me throughout my journey by providing a welcoming and diverse environment. The support from faculty and staff helped me stay motivated, overcome challenges, and successfully complete my education.
