Dr. Reels remains steadfast in her mission: “To Educate, Embrace, and Empower domestic violence survivors and families through spiritual, mental, and physical healing.
“Hudson County Community College was the place where I rediscovered myself. It didn’t just educate me—it awakened me. Hudson gave me confidence, community, and the courage
to believe that my story wasn’t over. It was the beginning of my becoming.”
What influenced your decision to attend community college?
I chose community college because I wanted a fresh start, a solid foundation, and an environment that understood the needs of working adults. HCCC offered accessibility, affordability, and a supportive atmosphere that made higher education feel possible.
How would you describe the quality of education you received?
The education I received at HCCC was excellent. My professors were knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to helping students grow academically and personally. HCCC prepared me not only for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, but also for the leadership roles I hold today.
What was the social experience like—did you feel a sense of community?
Absolutely. HCCC had a strong sense of community. Even as an older student, I felt welcomed, respected, and included. The diversity of the student body created a rich environment where everyone’s story mattered.
How did you stay motivated and manage your time effectively?
I stayed motivated by remembering why I returned to school—to build a better future for myself and to serve others. My faith, my determination, and my desire to break generational cycles kept me focused. I managed my time by prioritizing, staying organized, and leaning on prayer and discipline.
Would you recommend community college to others? Why or why not?
Yes, absolutely. Community college provides access, opportunity, support, and a strong academic foundation. It’s a place where people from all walks of life can grow, heal, and discover their purpose. HCCC was the beginning of my transformation.
