Hudson County Community College Foundation to Conduct Matching Gift Campaign

May 5, 2020

Beginning May 5, 2020 and continuing for one month, HCCC Foundation will match donations up to $100,000.

May 5, 2020, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Foundation announced that it is initiating a campaign on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 – National Giving Tuesday – that will match donors’ gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. The campaign will continue for one month. Tax-exempt donations to the HCCC Foundation Giving Tuesday Match Drive may be made at Foundation Giving Options.

HCCC President Dr. Chris Reber said the campaign is being undertaken as a result of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the College’s students and their families: “As we confront this unprecedented health emergency and the uncertainty of the future, the impact on our students and their families has been extraordinary. Nearly 80% of Hudson County Community College students rely upon financial assistance for their education. Because of the financial devastation of COVID-19, many are questioning whether they will have the means to pay their food and housing expenses, let alone continue their academic studies. As a community, HCCC is supporting our family of students. We also know that if they continue their education it will have a transformative impact on them, their families, and our community’s future.”

Dr. Reber said the College has doubled its efforts to care for and support HCCC students these past several weeks by providing all Spring 2020 coursework online; purchasing 650 laptops for students; providing virtual academic support and tutoring; implementing a zero-increase tuition and fee policy through July 2021; and providing food and financial assistance for everyday living expenses through the HCCC “Hudson Helps” program.

“The women and men who are Hudson County Community College students are our inspiration and our community’s promise for tomorrow. A college degree or certificate is their gateway to a brighter, more stable future. Donations to this campaign will go a long way in helping them,” Dr. Reber stated. The Hudson County Community College Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation giving tax-exempt status to contributors. Established in 1997, the Foundation generates financial support for the College and its students, developing and awarding needs-based and merit scholarships, providing seed money for faculty programs, assisting incoming students in achieving academic success, providing for the College’s physical growth as well as the cultural enrichment of Hudson County residents.
