July 18, 2022, Jersey City, NJ – The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) “Summer Youth and Teen Program” provides a variety of engaging, in-person opportunities for elementary, middle, and high school students to explore their creativity, learn lifesaving techniques, and sharpen their academic skills. All classes are in-person and emphasize self-discovery, cognitive reasoning, and cooperative thinking. Register online at https://tinyurl.com/SummerYouthPrograms22.

Digital Photography will help beginners go beyond point-and-click, and assist anyone with or without photographic experience to improve their skills. Using any digital camera, participants will examine the concepts of exposure, color balance, composition, and lighting techniques. They may explore projects like macro (close-up) photography, landscape, and portraiture, and learn about post-production editing at the HCCC computer lab. The course includes a field trip to a local destination for a photo shoot. Ideal for ages 9 to 15. Tuition is $270. 

Instructor William A. Ortega is an educator and visual artist. He received his BFA from New Jersey City University, MFA from Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts and MPS in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts.

Digital Photography II – Monday - Thursday, July 18 - 21, 2022, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

CPR and First Aid for Youths is a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification class that uses a scenario-based approach to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that drive better outcomes for adult, child, and infant patients. Topics include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillators; Rapid Assessment and Visual Survey; Obstructed Airways; Choking; Critical Thinking and Problem Solving; Communication and Teamwork; Special Considerations; Precautions; and more. For ages 9 to 15.
Classes are Monday - Thursday, July 25- 28, 2022, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (1 hr. lunch). Tuition is $270.

SAT Prep provides high school students with a jump-start on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and impressing college recruiters. This two-week test preparation program will help students learn to use basic problem-solving techniques to strengthen their abilities, while avoiding careless mistakes. Test-taking tips will be provided, along with sample tests from actual SAT exams. Classes are Monday – Thursday, August 1 - 11, 2022. Tuition is $275 for each section.
Language Arts – Class times: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.   
Math – Class times: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.   

Instructor Raza Qamar has been teaching Math, Computer Science, Chemistry and Physics at HCCC for more than 16 years. He previously taught at New Jersey City University (NJCU), Saint Peter’s University, Essex County Community College, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Borough of Manhattan Community College, and Sylvan Learning Center. Professor Qamar also worked in Zambia and Nigeria for four years, training teachers.

Baking Culinary Program will introduce participants to baking kid-friendly desserts from around the world. After learning about basic knife skills and kitchen safety, students will develop techniques that build confidence in the kitchen. Participants will make European classics such as cream puffs and apple tarts and explore modern bakeshop techniques with chocolate twists and bread pudding. For ages 9 to 15. Tuition is $355 for each section. 
Baking I – Monday - Thursday, August 1 - 4, 2022, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.    
Baking II – Monday - Thursday, August 8 - 11, 2022, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.    

Cooking Culinary Program will teach students how to cook kid-friendly meals with global flavors. Starting with basic knife and kitchen safety, students will learn techniques that build confidence. They will make homemade pasta from scratch, a basic marinara sauce, and toaster oven pizza. Steak tacos and chicken paella will round out the culinary journey. For ages 9 to 15. 

Chef Sean Wilson, the Chef Owner of CSW Catering, began his culinary career making caramelized apples and ice cream for his grandparents. Looking to try new recipes, he cooked hot meals for his scout troop during camping trips. Whether cooking for students in New Jersey public schools or rock stars in the Hamptons, Chef Sean uses his menus and culinary nuances to please a variety of tastes. 

Cooking I – Classes are Monday - Thursday, August 15 - 18, 2022, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuition is $375.
Cooking II – Classes are Monday - Friday, August 22 - 26, 2022, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuition is $470.

Hudson County Community College requires all students taking classes on campus to be vaccinated before starting classes. The College offers a one-time $100 incentive for students taking classes in-person and submitting their vaccination.
