The award recognizes the HCCC School of Nursing and Health Professions for its focus on recruiting and retaining traditionally underrepresented and first-generation college students and strengthening employee relationships and professional development. The College was applauded for partnering with organizations that work with diverse populations; incorporating culturally responsive concepts throughout curricula; providing guidelines for best practices in recruitment, hiring, succession planning, safety, and professional development; and creating innovative programs that address academic, financial and basic-needs support.

The HCCC School of Nursing and Health Professions offers courses for Registered and Practical Nursing, Radiography, Community Healthcare Navigator, Exercise Science, Health Science, Health Services, Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Science - Pre-Professional, Paramedic Science, and Personal Fitness Trainer.  Studies are offered in day, evening and weekend classes. The College offers affordable tuition, generous aid and scholarship packages, and eligible Nursing and Radiography students can take advantage of no-fee, no-interest loans from the New Jersey Pay It Forward Fund.

HCCC offers nationally acclaimed supports to help students stay engaged and complete their studies. These include the HCCC Hudson Helps Resource Center, a compendium of wraparound services, programs, and resources that address students’ basic needs beyond the classroom to promote student retention and success; and the Bellwether Award-winning Hudson Scholars program that provides proactive advisement, financial stipends, and early academic intervention models to support students facing financial challenges, language barriers, employment concerns, family responsibilities, and other whole life concerns in completing their college education.

“We take a detailed and somewhat holistic approach to reviewing each application in determining who will be named a Health Professions HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where academic excellence and belonging are woven into the work being done every day across their campus,” said Lenore Pearlstein, Co-publisher of Insight Into Academia.
