Biography

As an Admissions Advisor, Melanie assists students with the entire enrollment process from submitting their application to registering for classes to ensure a smooth process. Whether they are enrolling in college for the first time, transferring from another school, or simply want to take a few courses, she helps each student ensure their steps are complete in order for them to move forward with as little difficulty as possible. She is also able to assist Spanish-speaking students and helps them feel heard and understood during the enrollment process.

Melanie is a Puerto Rican and Peruvian first-generation Latina graduate who earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Digital Media with a minor in Creative Writing from Montclair State University (MSU). While graduating in May 2025 as Summa Cum Laude graduate, she also worked all four years of her time there as a student worker in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, which also earned her the Outstanding Student Worker of The Year Award in 2024. During her time in admissions, she realized that she loved working with students and families, especially those who were unfamiliar with the college process. She was able to build connections with Spanish-speaking families, and the moms connected with her personally, leaving a lasting impression on them. Throughout her undergraduate experience, she decided to pursue the higher education administration field instead of journalism. Now, with her previous experience in admissions, she’s been able to transition her knowledge and skills to the Hudson County Community College family.
