Biography

Joanie is a Nursing Instructor in the College of Nursing at HCCC. She teaches content related to Medical-Surgical Nursing in both classroom and clinical settings.

Joanie is an author, nursing educator, and the Founder of Proteawell, Inc. As an author, she published a book entitled, "The Uncared Self, Myself Care Journey: The Things I Wish I Knew", a workbook entitled, “The Uncared Self, Myself Care Journey: Workbook," and the book entitled “Finding Life’s Purpose: Poetry, Blogging, Journaling, and Storytelling.” As a nurse, she has experience working in telemetry, intermediate care, trauma, and caring for healthcare recipients with acute, chronic, and end-stage renal disease. These experiences have equipped her to teach medical-surgical courses, with an emphasis on public health, disease prevention, and management. As the Founder of Proteawell, she draws on her personal and professional experiences (as a first-generation college student and in preventing burnout in the workforce) to not only write about self-care and self-development but also to speak about them with individuals, communities, and organizations. She enjoys teaching, and looks forward to being a part of students' academic journeys.
