HCCC CARES ACT EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID GRANTS
You can submit your application by completing the CARES Act Emergency Grants Application.
The United States Department of Education announced the specific funding that has been allocated to every postsecondary institution in the nation through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act recently passed by Congress and signed into law. Hudson County Community College will receive funds under the CARES Act to provide emergency grants to students with unforeseen emergency expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19. Eligible expenses include items in the student’s cost of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare.
The college aims to assist as many students as possible in meeting their emergency financial needs during this challenging time. We are all here to support you.
Reporting Date: April 1, 2021
* Hudson County Community College has signed and returned the Recipient’s Funding Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students and the institution intends to use the funds to provide the mandated amount of at least 50 percent of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) grants to students.
* HCCC received the total emergency fund amount of $4,233,831 under the HEERF grants to students.
* As of the reporting date of April 1, 2021 the total amount of $5,749,056 was distributed to students.
* HCCC has an estimated total of 5,383 students who are eligible to participate under Section 484 in the Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
* As of the reporting date of April 1, 2021 the total of 4,669 students received the emergency grant.
* HCCC has determined who will receive emergency grants through the fund application submitted by the students. On the application form, the students need to indicate how much money they need that are eligible for emergency grant funding, including food, housing, course materials, and transportation. The college has awarded eligible students the CARES Act emergency fund amount of $750.00.

The Act includes several sources of funds for colleges and universities, including the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.What is the CARES Act emergency financial aid grants?

If I’m eligible, how do I apply?
According to the U.S. Department of Education, the CARES Act emergency financial aid grant funding is to students who are eligible to receive federal financial aid and are enrolled in a program that met on-campus prior to the transition to online classes due to COVID-19.
The financial aid office will determine if the student meets the financial aid eligibility requirements based on the FAFSA on file. Students who have not completed a 2020-2021 FAFSA, to be considered for the HCCC CARES Act Grant, you may do so at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Is there a deadline for applying?
We are reviewing applications as quickly as possible so we can meet students’ critical needs. Funds are limited, so we encourage students to apply now.What are the types of expenses covered by CARES Act funding?
Eligible expenses associated with your enrollment at HCCC for CARES Act funding include, food (ex. food expenses due to cancelation of college meal plans or campus dining plans), housing (ex. housing expenses due to cancelation of campus housing, dorm or student’s residence), technology expenses, academic course materials, health care, child care and other unexpected expenses included in the student’s cost of attendance. What documentation am I required to submit for the CARES Act application?
Documentation is dependent upon the circumstances of the student applying and will be outlined in application
How much emergency fund will I get?
CARES Act funding is limited. The college hopes to help as many students as possible, therefore, is awarding all ELIGIBLE students an initial CARES Act award. Due to the large volume of applications, students who are experiencing extreme financial need will be requested to reach out to the HCCC Hudson Helps Resources. If I receive funding, will it negatively impact my existing financial aid package?
Funding from the CARES Act emergency fund will not impact a student’s financial aid package.How long will it take to receive a decision after I submit my application?
We are reviewing applications as quickly as possible so we can meet students’ critical needs. Students will receive an email notification when their application is processed.
How will I receive my funds?
If funding is approved, the grant funds will be disbursed to your account.
PAPER CHECK BY MAIL
Emergency refund check will be mailed to student’s permanent home address on file. Please note that checks are mailed by default. It is crucial for students to make sure they always have their current address on file.
