Hudson County Community College Promotes Matthew LaBrake to Associate Vice President for Digital Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Emerging Technologies

Matthew LaBrake has been promoted to Associate Vice President for Digital Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Emerging Technologies at Hudson County Community College.

April 13, 2026, Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Community College (HCCC) President Dr. Christopher Reber announced that Matthew LaBrake has been promoted to Associate Vice President for Digital Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Emerging Technologies.

Mr. LaBrake joined HCCC as Executive Director of the College’s Center for Online Learning and as HCCC’s Chief Online Learning Officer in August 2021. In that capacity, he expanded access to high-quality online and hybrid learning; strengthened student outcomes; and built a comprehensive digital learning ecosystem grounded in accessibility, equity, and student-centered design. He led strategic investments in technology infrastructure; established institution-wide course design standards; and developed robust faculty and student support systems to strengthen teaching and learning across modalities.

Mr. LaBrake co-chairs the College’s new Artificial Intelligence Strategy and Governance Council (AISGC), a cross-functional body that guides the College’s approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration, governance, and responsible use. He also chairs the HCCC Online Learning Advisory Council to advance AI literacy among students, faculty and staff, and works with faculty to align curricula with evolving workforce expectations and prepare HCCC graduates to understand and utilize technology in their careers.

“Matt will continue to lead growing college-wide professional development opportunities related to planning and utilizing Artificial Intelligence in order to achieve positive outcomes in teaching, learning, and institutional operations while mitigating the ethical and equity challenges inherent in the technology,” Dr. Reber stated.

Mr. LaBrake received his Master of Science degree in Library Information Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in Information Science and Technology from State University of New York at Albany. He holds professional certifications through the AI Fellows Program (League for Innovation in Community Colleges), AI as Your Leadership Ally (EDUCAUSE), Leading in the Age of AI: Future-Ready Policies and Practices (Online Learning Consortium), and Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning (Online Learning Consortium).

Active in the national higher education community as a frequent presenter and volunteer, Mr. LaBrake contributes to conversations about online learning, artificial intelligence, and digital strategy. He serves in leadership and advisory roles with national organizations including the Online Learning Consortium and University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).

Under Mr. LaBrake’s leadership, the HCCC Center for Online Learning received the 2025 EDGE Digital Accessibility Award for Advancing Inclusive Online Education. He is the recipient of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) 2024 Rising Star-Manager Regional Award.
