Hudson County Community College Announces Plans for 2012 Commencement Exercises

More than 900 will graduate at College’s 34th Commencement Exercises on Wednesday evening, May 23rd; Dr. Walter G. Bumphus is keynote speaker.

 

April 17, 2012, Jersey City, NJ – Plans are progressing for Hudson County Community College’s 34th Commencement Exercises, which will take place on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Prudential Hall in Newark, NJ. The College expects to award degrees to more than 900 students to the Class of 2012.

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) President Dr. Glen Gabert announced that the keynote speaker for the ceremonies will be Dr. Walter G. Bumphus, the President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, an organization that is often referred to as the national “voice for community colleges.” The American Association of Community Colleges represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 13 million students.

Paul Silverman, co-owner of SILVERMAN, will be presented with the College’s 2012 Heritage Award, an honor that recognizes members of the community who have made significant contributions to the College. Mr. Silverman and his company have long been supporters of the College and its students, providing scholarships for several students over the years. Mr. Silverman is also a member of the Hudson County Community College Foundation Board of Directors and was Chair from 2005 to 2007.

Dr. Gabert also announced that the invocation will be delivered by Reverend Robert Reiser, S.J. Fr. Reiser is the President of Saint Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (Washington, D.C.) and Saint Peter’s College (Jersey City, NJ).
