Driving Student Success, on the Course and Beyond: The HCCC Foundation's 24th Annual Golf Outing Returns on June 22nd

The Foundation’s Golf Outing is a summertime fixture in Hudson County and one of the organization’s signature fundraising events. All proceeds raised directly support student scholarships, helping HCCC students overcome financial barriers and pursue their academic and career aspirations.

The outing will also celebrate the success of the HCCC Student Golf Clinic, made possible through a generous donation from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Taking place at Skyway Golf in Jersey City, the five-week program introduces students to the game of golf, many for the first time, while helping them develop confidence, communication skills, and professional networking opportunities. One participant, Mariano Mejias, who picked up the game for the first time during last year’s clinic, discovered he had a real passion for the game (as well as a knack for it) and continued to play frequently throughout the year. When the recent HCCC graduate begins his studies at Kean University this fall, he plans to try out for the school’s golf team.

On the impact of the student golf clinic, Mejias stated, “Before joining the student golf clinic, I always thought golf was inaccessible and unaffordable for some reason. Over the past year, through weekly practice and the support of the program, I discovered that when you truly want something and are willing to put in the effort, opportunities can open in ways you never expect. Golf has taught me discipline, patience, confidence, and continuous improvement. As a recent graduate, I'm now planning to try out for a university golf team, something I never would have imagined before. This experience has shown me that with dedication and hard work, almost anything is possible."

These students will take part in the Golf Outing, demonstrating the skills they acquired through the program and showing how access to these types of experiences can help students build valuable social capital that supports future success.

“Every dollar raised through the Foundation Golf Outing creates opportunities for our students,” said HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber. “These scholarships help students focus on their studies, complete their degrees, and build brighter futures for themselves. We thank all of the golfers and sponsors whose participation and generosity make this support possible each year.”

Set on 150 acres in Florham Park, Brooklake Country Club offers golfers a championship-caliber experience on one of New Jersey’s premier private courses. Participants will enjoy a full day of golf, hospitality, networking, contests, and prizes while supporting a cause that has a lasting impact.

Foursomes, individual tickets and a number of sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and individuals wishing to enjoy a great day on the course while supporting HCCC students. If you’re not a golfer but want to join in the fun, lunch-only tickets are also available. Those unable to attend the event may also contribute through a charitable donation.
