Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is charged with reviewing proposals to conduct Human Subjects Research at Hudson County Community College.

Download the current HCCC IRB Policies.

  • Confirm that you are doing Human Subjects Research. If you are unsure, the NIH has a decision tree to help with the determination.
  • Obtain Institutional Approval for your research. IRB approval means that your project poses minimal risk to human subjects.  It does not imply institutional approval to conduct research at HCCC.  Depending on the nature of your project, you may require approval by an Academic Dean or Vice President.  Our office can help you identify the appropriate institutional contact.
  • Complete the HCCC IRB Application
  • Submit your application to researchFREEHUDSONCOUNTYCOMMUNITYCOLLEGE, with sufficient supporting documentation to allow the IRB to understand and evaluate your project. These may include, where relevant:
    • Informed consent documents
    • Survey instruments

Download the current HCCC IRB Application.

The HCCC IRB meets monthly during the academic year, and as required during the summer.

To ensure sufficient review time, please submit IRB materials at least 10 business days prior to a scheduled IRB meeting.
