Hudson County Community College to Host Reception for NJ STARS Students and Parents/Guardians

Event on Wednesday evening, April 25 will provide information on how NJ STARS program covers the cost of tuition at HCCC for eligible students.
April 19, 2012, Jersey City, NJ –Hudson County Community College (HCCC) will host a reception and information session for NJ STARS (Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship) eligible high school students and their parents/guardians. The event will be held on Wednesday evening, April 25, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. in the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center, 161 Newkirk Street — two blocks from the Journal Square PATH Station in Jersey City.
HCCC President Dr. Glen Gabert said the event will provide NJ STARS students and their parents/guardians with the chance to learn about the College and its offerings, including the admissions process, honors courses and opportunities for transferring to a four-year college after graduating from Hudson County Community College.
NJ STARS is a scholarship program exclusive to New Jersey residents that currently covers the cost of tuition and approved fees for up to five semesters at Hudson County Community College or any of the State’s other 18 community colleges. Students who graduate in the top 15% of their high school class and meet other criteria may be eligible for the program (information is available at https://www.hccc.edu/paying-for-college/scholarships/nj-stars/index.html).
“Hudson County Community College is one of the best educational values anywhere. Our students can earn their associate degrees for a fraction of the cost that they would pay to attend other colleges and universities,” Dr. Gabert said. After attaining their associate degrees, HCCC graduates may either enter the workforce with credentials or go on to complete work towards bachelor degrees at a four-year college or university.
Hudson County Community College has articulation agreements in place with four-year institutions from all over New Jersey, including Saint Peter’s College, New Jersey City University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and several others. Students who have earned their associate degrees have a better chance of being admitted to four-year colleges and universities because possessing an associate degree demonstrates a high level of commitment and dedication.
Hudson County Community College has realized record growth these past few years, and the College now serves almost 10,000 students. In addition to the main campus at Journal Square in Jersey City, the North Hudson Higher Education Center in Union City — a complete campus under one roof — was opened last Fall. A full range of classes and services are offered at the $28.2 million, 92,350-square-foot North Hudson Center building, which is connected to the Bergenline Light Rail station via a glass-enclosed bridge. In November of 2011, the College also announced plans and broke ground for a new six-story Learning Resources Center & Academic Building at 65-79 Sip Avenue in Jersey City.
