English Skills for Real Life Situations

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This class is for all levels, you will work with other students that are on the same level as you. Topics in this class will include:
Conversational English – use what you know to hold a conversation in English. Practice with other students; develop your word and sentence level literacy, pronunciation, and basic conversation skills.
Writing effectively – learn to write in English. Develop well-structured sentences and paragraphs. Construct a five-paragraph essay by the end of the class. (Useful for completing Praxis and TOEFL exams.)
Mastering the American Accent – express yourself with clarity, confidence, and accuracy. Perfect vowel and problematic consonant sounds. By learning how to stress syllables and link words correctly, students will achieve a more American-sounding speech.

 

FORMAT FOR SUMMER CLASSES (JULY - AUGUST)

ASSIGNMENTS AND COMPLETION CERTIFICATE

In addition to the in-person meetings that will take place on TWO Saturdays and TWO Sundays, this class will include HOMEWORK, consisting of assignments that you work on independently, as well as guided home study with your instructor via zoom. This means that you will start the class with a weekend of in-person classes, followed by a weekend of home study via zoom, then again a weekend of in-person classes, followed by a weekend of home study via zoom. 

There are no pre- and follow-up assignments, but instead you will have weekly homework. The entire course will give you 36 hours, 16 hours will be in-person, and 20 hours will consist of homework – both independent work as well as instructor-guided work.

You will be invited to join Google Classroom 2 weeks before class starts, which is the platform we use for all our assignments. Check your junk or spam folder, as invitations to join Google Classroom sometimes end up there. Please make sure you register for the course with a valid email address, since this is where you will receive the invitation. Your email has to be Google compatible, so it’s best to use gmail, hotmail or yahoo. If you do not receive a notification to join Google Classroom, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to contact us.

It is NOT possible to receive your certificate early for our English class. This is a 4-week class and certificates will be awarded once class has officially concluded and all assignments have been successfully completed.

 

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is mandatory for ALL MEETINGS, both IN-PERSON and HOME STUDY VIA ZOOM! If you are late or leave early, you will not receive a course completion certificate.

Saturdays 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Sundays 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

AND

Saturdays 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ZOOM
Sundays 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ZOOM

 

ONLINE FORMAT

This class will consist of readings and assignments posted on Google Classroom and scheduled zoom sessions (zoom is a video conference app) every weekend, for 4 weeks. Please make sure you register for the course with a valid email address, since this is where you will receive an invitation notification to join Google Classroom. Both Zoom and Google Classroom are free platforms and easy to use. You will be invited to join Google Classroom a week before class starts. Make sure you check your spam/junk folder, as invitations to join Google Classroom sometimes end up there. Your email must be Google compatible, so it’s best if you use gmail, hotmail or yahoo.
