Personal Fitness Trainer, Proficiency Certificate

Get paid to do what you love! Start your fitness career at HCCC by obtaining your personal training certificate.

This 16-credit certificate program prepares graduates to sit for a national certification exam in Personal Training from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Coursework includes Sports Nutrition, Fitness Training Methods, Program Design and Implementation, Advanced Personal Training, and a Personal Training Internship. Additional certificates in First Aid and CPR/AED are obtained through coursework. The personal fitness training certificate is seamlessly transferred into the HCCC Associate Degree in Science (AS) in Exercise Science.

Personal Fitness Training Certificate – May 2019 Exercise Science AS – December 2020
Mike had worked for a while as an EMT but was looking for something else. As a high school football player, Mike has always loved exercising and staying active, so the personal fitness training certificate was a perfect fit. Mike completed the certificate degree and passed his national certification exam in May 2019. He was hired right away as a personal trainer at Blink Fitness. He continued to work as a personal trainer while completing his associate degree in exercise science at HCCC. He is currently working as a personal trainer and laboratory assistant.

Description

The proficiency certificate in Personal Fitness Training prepares students for the entry-level workforce in the fitness industry, including commercial and clinical settings such as health clubs, corporate fitness centers, personal training, health promotion, program management and personal coaching. The program provides a knowledge base in scientific principles and requires the development of basic skills in exercise assessment. Prescription and programing in healthy populations, performance enhancement, nutritional principles applied to exercise and sports, patient/client interpersonal relations and professional ethics and behavior within a safe practice format, prepare graduates to sit for a national certification in Personal Training from the NASM-National Academy of Sports Medicine, Additional certificates in First Aid and CPR are available through their coursework.

Students may need a criminal background check and medical clearance with immunizations depending upon internship placement.

After completing the Personal Fitness Training Certificate, seamlessly transfer into the HCCC Exercise Science Associates Degree. This program allows you to earn your national personal training certificate AND associate’s degree.
