The Bachelor of Arts option provides you with a more rounded, less technical view of computer science. HCCC has articulation agreements with most regional colleges, which will allow students to transfer all their credits.

Description

The graduates of the Associate in Science degree in Computer Science are prepared for transfer to four-year institutions to complete bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields. The curriculum provides instruction in computer programming on the application and system levels, an understanding of computer hardware organization and architectures, and a working knowledge of microcomputer and microprocessor design. Students may choose from two tracks, one leading to a Bachelor of Science degree and the other leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The latter requires fewer advanced mathematics and physics courses. A.S. Computer Science curriculum for transfer to Bachelor of Arts.

Additional Program Information

Upon successful completion of the Computer Science Program, students will be able to: 

  1. Computer Networks, which will give students introductory knowledge to work in the field of Computer Networking and Computer Security.
  2. Database Design and Concepts, which will provide students with the skills and knowledge to work in the field of Database Design.  
  3. Programming Languages, such as C++, Python, Java, SQL, Visual Basics, etc., which will provide opportunities for students to develop programming and analytical skills and provide them to work as computer programmers.  
  4. Operating Systems and Microprocessors, which will give students knowledge of computer architecture as well as troubleshooting computer hardware.
  5. Information Systems, which will teach students how to create and use technology wisely and ethically.
