2023 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award

Eastern Millwork, Inc. (EMI) Holz Technik Academy Apprenticeship Program

Three young men who think spatially, and have loved to dismantle and reassemble things throughout their lives, are now among an elite group. The trio of tinkerers – David Ayoub, Ezeldein Elgamil, and Phoenix Overholser – recently earned positions in the coveted Hudson County Community College (HCCC) and Eastern Millwork, Inc. (EMI) Holz Technik Academy Apprenticeship Program. They signed employment agreements on July 6 at EMI in Jersey City.

HCCC student Assil Jeriouda participated in NISOD’s 2023 Student Essay Contest by writing a moving essay about Dr. Fatma Tat, who serves as Instructor of Chemistry and Coordinator of the Garden State S-STEM Scholarship and was recently awarded tenure. American Association of Community Colleges 2023

Clive Li was recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and awarded the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Recognition award. The award recognizes individuals making a difference in the classroom who go above and beyond for student success inside and outside of the classroom.

2022 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is the recipient of the “2022 Inspiring Programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Award” from Insight Into Diversity Magazine. The college was recognized for recruiting and retaining minority students and for its participation in the Northern New Jersey Bridges to Baccalaureate (NNJ-B2B) program, part of the Garden State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (GS-LAMP). HCCC has been designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the NSA. In New Jersey, it is the 3rd Community College and the 10th institution to receive this designation. This designation could not have been accomplished without the work of Prof. Faisal Aljamal, Dean Yearwood, and other college community members.

Introduction to Beekeeping Science

Dive into the scientific study of bees, covering their diverse species, life cycles, and essential roles in pollination and biodiversity. Through a combination of interactive lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and field visits to apiaries, students will gain practical knowledge in fundamental beekeeping techniques, hive assembly, disease prevention, and ethical practices.
