Associate of Arts - Liberal Arts - Theatre Arts Option

By offering a comprehensive liberal arts curriculum with core theatre requirements, the Theatre Arts program is designed for students interested in all facets of Theatre, Film or Communications. The curriculum intentionally emphasizes a comprehensive base in liberal arts education, the foundation from which the playwright, actor and director derive most, if not all, of their essential philosophies.

I'm a firm believer that the best thing a person can do for themselves is to follow their dreams. Attending HCCC’s Theatre Program was my first step in that direction. I began my HCCC journey as a sociology major, and with the help and direction of Professor Gallo, I ended as a theatre graduate with the tools, and most importantly, the confidence to pursue my dream of being an actress.

HCCC’s Theatre Program has left me with people, memories, and experiences I will never forget. I entered with a curiosity in acting and left encouraged to be a serious actor. Also, performing in front of a live audience every semester was terrifying and exciting - so not a bad deal!

WHO WE ARE

The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) campus is located only 17 minutes from New York City, allowing easy access to the heart of the Theatre District, where students see plays, musicals, and dance/theatre, on Broadway and Off-Broadway, and go on field trips to the Tony Award-winning Drama Book Shop, and the Library of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

Our classes are taught by an award-winning faculty, who also work professionally in the field, while Guest Artists are additionally brought in from New York to conduct workshops.  And each semester ends with a Theatre Festival, which showcases scenes, monologues, and songs presented in our state-of-the-art Studio Theatre Classroom.

HCCC also provides one paid internship annually at a partnering professional theatre company.

The theatre arts program at HCCC truly transformed me as an actor, student, and person. I was even hired for a paid theatre internship!  Professor Gallo’s teaching has better prepared me for a future in my career.
